To get started - you need to have a second browser window open. This will allow you to access the site and also refer back to this Module to continue and follow the lesson. If you are using Firefox as your browser, click the plus sign. If you are using Internet Explorer you simply click the blank tab next to the title of the current page (should be this one!).
Next, on your new page, go to www.quizlet.com. If you can't seem to add a new page, or have problems reaching the site, click here.
Now that you have access to the site, begin by watching the demonstration video. This will help you gain a basic understanding of what this site can do for you....so how excited are YOU to start using this site?!
I want you to go to the Quizlet.com site. In the search box (pictured below) I want you type my last name: Bunce. Click on the search magnifying glass.
This is what you should end up with...So - does that mean that I don't exist? Nope, the flashcards are there - you just need to click on the "Groups" that I have highlighted in the picture below!
Now you will see a list of the two results that come us with Bunce. I'm the one from Adairsville, Georgia! Click on me!
You will now see that there is a list of all of the flashcards I have created to be used in my classroom, by my students, and of course - for this instructional module. Please click the first set: Learning Quizlet set 1. All I want you to do at this point, with this set is to play and experience the options that the program offers.
At this point, you should have a feel for the way that Quizlet works once flashcard sets have been created. In class I often create the sets with student input - so they understand and see the wording that is used. The number one favorite activity to do using Quizlet in my classes is, by far, Scatter. Using the Promethean Board students compete for the best times. We keep a running tally as students match the scattered terms and definitions (or countries and capitals or people and importance, the possibilities are endless you know...). Sometimes the winner receives candy - other times bonus points - most frequently bragging rights! I have seen a huge increase in retention of material. Students come to school bragging on their personal best times at home. Parents are involved because they hear the fun that their student is having using the program. It is a win-win situation. Please navigate to the Part 2 section of the Using Quizlet module. You will find the link in the left column of the wikispace. Next you are going to learn to create your personal account and begin creating your own flashcard sets as well!
